DENTURE CARE

HOW TO PROPERLY CLEAN YOUR DENTURES

  • Always remove your dentures from your mouth before brushing.
  • Clean your dentures with a denture-specific product that will remove bacteria, such as Polident toothpaste (cut off), Polident Fresh Cleanse (foam-cut off) or Liquid Hand Soap (clean thoroughly-cut off).
  • Only use a denture brush when cleaning your dentures (the bristles are harder than regular toothbrushes).
  • Remove/clean off debris stuck on your dentures.
  • Place your dentures back in your mouth after cleaning them, or put them in a container with cold water at night. Dentures should always be stored with cold water at night, or when they’re out of your mouth.

RENEW

Renew is a professional denture cleaner that removes heavy stains that aren’t being removed from just brushing alone. It is a powder that you add to warm water and simply drop your dentures in. You can soak your dentures in Renew for 20 to 30 minutes (set a timer), and then remove and thoroughly clean before putting them back into your mouth, or in a container of cold water overnight.

Renew Denture Cleaner removes: nicotine, plaque/tartar, coffee, tea, and food stains, it also dissolves calcium buildup and more.

TIPS

  • Place a small facecloth in your sink before brushing. That way it protects the denture and teeth if you accidentally drop them.
  • Complete lower dentures should be held either in the centre, or on the side. They should never be squeezed (with the two ends pulled together).
  • Brush your dentures in the morning, and once you take them out for the night. You can also brush or rinse them as many times as you need during the day (after meals, for example).
  • Don’t scrub your denture too hard, otherwise you will wear down the acrylic and the teeth over time.

GETTING USED TO YOUR NEW DENTURES

ANNUAL COMPLIMENTARY CHECK-UP*

RECEIVE THE CARE AND ATTENTION YOU AND YOUR DENTURES DESERVE

It is critical to maintain your dentures to ensure maximum comfort, chewing efficiency and appearance.

An annual checkup is an opportunity to identify problems and possibly save you money and trouble in the future.

An annual recare/recall appointment is important to ensure the following possible concerns are examined by your Denturist:

ORAL TISSUE AND JAWBONE

Over time, your mouth undergoes inevitable changes. Shrinkage (atrophy) of the underlying jawbone on which your dentures rest is inevitable. The soft gum tissue that covers the jawbone will also change over time. Your dentures’ fitting surfaces do not change over time and your dentures may not fit as they once did.

ORAL CAVITY

Having an annual oral exam may help prevent or detect the existence of oral cancer or other abnormal conditions.

MEDICAL AND DENTAL HISTORY

Updating both your medical and dental history is an important step towards quality overall treatment, as changes may directly affect the fit of your dentures.
